Over the season Five Ways Old Edwardian Ladies have persevered through all the elements; wind, rain, snow, storms and flooding. Only a deadly virus could stop them playing and in March the RFU called the season to a premature end. The women proudly finished third in the league.
The team finished on a high note with the last play at a local ground where their supporters could cheer them on and beat Hucclecote RFC 17-5. Itwasin true rugby style as the ladies were so muddy it was difficult to tell the teams apart.
It hasn’t all been easy, the first match of the season was against Cannock RFC – a team they had never faced before. The women didn’t know what to expect, they ended up leaving the pitch with impressive bruising and Simons had a trip to A&E. This proved just how hard the season was going to be. The ladies kept fighting like soldiers and won the next five consecutive matches.
They welcomed new players to the team and even to the sport that has made a big impact on and off the pitch, with laughter always heard echoing from the changing rooms and clubhouse.
The team handled whatever was thrown at them. Injuries were sustained and when adjustment had to be made they kept battling through it all and always came ready to play.
Overall the ladies have had a successful season and hope to carry the momentum through into next year.
